Done dishes
It was a lazy morning.
Lazy mornings bring forward the fierce questions.
What is life all about?
What did the Buddha realize beneath the Bodhi tree?
For a while I sat with these thoughts,
watching them pass through the mind.
Then a quieter insight arrived:
Let me not be a servant of great things,
but the lord of small things.
Let me not postpone life
until wisdom is complete,
success is certain,
And enlightenment arrives.
Let me wash these dishes.
So I did the dishes.
I unplugged the sink outlet.
The sink emptied.
The plates shone.
The mind grew quiet.
There is nothing more satisfying
than done dishes.
